Braided line provides high sensitivity and small diameter, nylon is flexible and fluorocarbon is often used as durable and less visible claw material. Choose by method and species.

Start from target species, lure weight, environment and the reel's recommendations. Coarse line gives more margin but affects throw length and how much line the spool can hold.

Replace the line when it is frayed, discolored, flat or has recurring damage. Check especially the first meters and the knots.
